I’ve been recognized by Super Lawyers Magazine of the Mid South as a Super Lawyer in the area of Elder Law. According to Super Lawyers Magazine: “Peer nominations and evaluations are combined with third party research. Each candidate is evaluated on 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement. Selections are made on an annual, state-by-state basis. ”
I’m quite honored to be named as a Super Lawyer and to be included in other lists, such as best Lawyers in America(registered trademark).
But quite frankly, I’m skeptical of lists such as these. There are many fine lawyers who don’t make it onto “the list.”
I have always told friends and clients to check with other lawyers to find the lawyer they want to work with. Then interview that lawyer. Make sure that you find a good fit in terms of interests and goals for your legal matter.
Do a little research on the Internet. Read the prospective lawyer’s blog. In terms of Elder Law, you might look for a lawyer to have volunteer interests that demonstrate a genuine feeling for the plight of the elderly. (Incidentally, I am on the board of FiftyForward and serve as Membership Chair of the Senior Services Network.)
Then, if you hire a lawyer and it doesn’t work out, find a different lawyer. Most legal matters are simply too important to allow a bad relationship with your lawyer to lead to a bad income.
